Sugar is too sweet!

We saw sugar in the paper and thought she was beautiful. While not my first choice, I saw her first and went to the shelter to see her.

It was truly love at first site. She was wild at first, but calmed right down. We took her for a walk, (my 8 year old son and i) and knew that we had to take her home with us asap!

We went into the side room where she licked my sons face and they played tug of war. When my little boy found out we had to wait a day to bring her home, he cried so hard it was painful to watch.

We went to the store to pick out a collar, leash and bowl. My son wanted me to keep my money, he wanted to buy her stuff to come home. He laid on every dog bed in the store to make sure he got the comfiest one (he did!) and was so proud caryring his purchases to the register. When we got home he went through the whole house picking up and rearranging things. He made her her own ''house'' in his room.

She has been the best addition to a family anyone could ask for. She is playful, loving. protective, listens so well and is fun to have around. She opts to sleep in my son's bed instead of in hers, but that's ok. He likes it better that way too.

Sugar is such a perfect fit with us. We've only had her home almost 2 weeks and already can't imagine going without! Thank you CCHS for giving us the oppurtunity to adopt this wonderful loving creature, and for the work you do for other animals, and the families that come to love them.

Zoey and Jenni :D

Hi CCHS!

I adopted Zoey in October of 2010. She has truly been the best blessing to me and my fiance. She was formally known at the shelter as Victoria. I am a student at Michigan Tech and she is always by my side.

Almost two years into our friendship, I decided Zoey was in need of a friend once I saw Jenni, formally known as Rhiana, on the Copper Country Humane Society website. My mom brought her to my attention in April of 2011. I immediately called Lindsey at the shelter and decided to come in that very day with Zoey to meet this scared, little puppy.

Jenni was very scared of everyone and everything. It was very clear she was suffering and needed a home fast that would love her and bring her spirits back. After I got to met her, I was allowed to bring Zoey in to meet her new sister. They loved each other! The minute Jenni saw Zoey, she completely changed and was playing and running around. I knew right then and there, my fiance and I could give her a great home with lots of love. Later that week, she was home with her new family. She was very timid and scared. She followed Zoey around and hid behind her when new people would come up to her. She also was attached to my hip and wouldn't leave my side. At the end of April I took her and Zoey back home to my parents house for the summer to live with me and my family.

Jenni fit in and truly blossomed this summer at my parents house with all my family members and their dogs. She has also grown to be quite big! She is already taller and weighs more than Zoey, who is 2 years old now. We are thinking that Jenni has some German Short hair Pointer in her as well as Rottweiler. SHe is such a love bug and gets so excited when she sees me or my mom that she can barely stand!

Zoey and Jenni are best friends and truly are a blessing to each other. They play outside all the time and at night are cuddly in Zoey's dog bed together. Zoey couldn't be happier to have a sister and a playmate and Jenni is no longer scared and afraid. She has come out of her shell completely.

I want to thank you, CCHS, for giving me and my fiance the best blessings we could have in dogs! They are wonderful and have been a great addition to our family. They even are going to be in our wedding pictures! They are our little girls!

I look forward to coming to visit the shelter and I will continue to give updates.

Thank you again for giving us our best friends!

Happy Tail

BG came to live with us two years ago and quickly adjusted to a life of leisure. She enjoys the cool summer breezes coming off the lake in Gay and during the colder winter months she's adapted to the life of a snowbird in Tucson. Relaxing and napping were her favorite pasttimes until this spring when we brought home a new addition to the family..... Murphy (aka Goliath). Initially, BG was not so sure she wanted a younger brother, afterall she was queen of the castle. But Murphy is such a friendly and playful boy that you can't help but fall in love with him. They are now best of friends and both cats have welcomed our summer visitor, Scooter, our maltese/bichon grand-dog. It's an active household during the summer months with pets and grandsons. Murphy has adopted one of our grandsons as his best buddy and they spend endless hours playing together. BG & Murphy have definitely found a good life and we're glad to share this happy ending!

Molly

Hi,
Look at me! Dannie got a bit carried away with the clippers but it's way cooler and I can run faster! That's my big brother Chess next to me. He's not doing too good lately...he's losing weight and doesn't want to eat. :( Mom is sad about it so I try to be good and keep her in a good mood. I love to play ball, go for car rides and run in the woods. I get to go to the lake and swim and get all dirty while I run around and play - it's great! Kirby the cat and I are still not buds yet, but I keep trying! He hisses at me, I bark at him and we run through the house...I'm sure you can imagine!
I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I'm fine. I hope you and all my other pals are doing good.
Later all,
Molly (no-no)

Patches Lucky Price

MY girlfriend and I decided to go to CCHS one Friday afternoon just to look around and play with the animals..We didn't plan to adopt when we went. But then there was Patches a cute beagle English pointer mix. Patches was just sitting in his kennel nice and quiet while every one else back there was making them selves known . we went around looking at other dogs but kept coming back to patches. We took him out for a walk and just knew he was the right one for us.We have two cats Luke and stardust and had talked for a while about getting a dog.
We decided the time was NOW since we knew patches would go quick and we are glad we did.
Patches has brought allot of love joy and happiness into our home he does some really funny things at times like trying to go through the cat cube and then getting stuck! then looks at us and says mommy daddy help! our cat Luke put his tail in patches toy box and patches thought it was a toy and grabbed a hold of it and went to take off of course the cat squealed and ran away and they both looked at each other in dis belief. Luke is ok so in other words he keeps us and our kitties on our toes. We hope to enjoy all of them for years to come.

Luna's (aka Hail) Progress

Luna is doing great she is one of our little princesses here. She likes to lay on the computer desk to keep me from doing work and always wants me to focus on her. She always waits on the stairs and meows until I come up and tuck her into bed .She does now like the downstairs and likes to lay on the cold kitchen floor sometimes. Luna thrives on human attention and loves being pet and rubbing her face on things. Right now she is sleeping and does not want to be woken up.Luna has brought us so much joy we can't imagine how we lived without her.

Mammy aka Oatie

I'm having Mommy write this for me because I'm outside after breakfast.

I went home with her 4 weeks ago to Calumet but we all moved to my permanent home in Hancock 24 days ago.

I have so many doors in this house I got lost at first.

I've healed from my surgery and now the stairs to all 3 floors and to the basement (it's a walkout and I get to my yard that way) are easy for me to manage..

I sleep right next to Mommy's bed.

Mommy lives with her son and a border and I really like those guys. Her son (my grandson) gets on the floor and plays with me.

The other guy is so TALL but not so tall to pet me and talk real nice to me.

I let my Mommy think she's teaching me but I'm so smart she doesn't know its just natural for me to love her I and follow her directions easily.

I sit and stay and give her my paws and jump to catch the treats she gives me. See I'm training her well.

I like the walks I go on and she takes me for rides in her car. I really like that because I get to see the whole area.

I always do what she says and come when I'm called.

I miss all my peeps from the Humane Society and thank you for your care while Mommy was looking for me.

I will visit when I need to see the vet and you'll see how fast I'm growing.

Mommy doesn't have a camera so maybe you could put the picture you took of me with my letter.

P.S. I was even helping in the garden at first but I stopped that because Mommy said it wasn't time to plant.

Maybe she'll let me watch when she puts in the garden.

Sincerely,

Mammy

Danielle

Great news from Danielle!

It has been almost three weeks since Danielle found her adoptive home. She has adapted so very well to her new surroundings!

After a few short days of apprehension and hiding out in the safe haven of her basement bedroom, Danielle is now very active roaming to every corner of the house discovering and inspecting every nick and cranny. Even though she thouroughly enjoys the company of her people and our other house cat... a friendly relationship is developing... she still retreats for her mid-afternoon nap to her special pillow bed in the basement.

How Danielle enjoys attention! She thrives on petting, holding, loving! What a wonderful girl she is!

We are happy to be able to give her the comfy life she deserves, too!

Tiggy

We adopted Tiggy two weeks after my cat Midnight of 13 years passed away. I just knew a house wasn't a home without the pitter patter of four little paws..so we stopped by the Copper Country Humane Society on Saturday afternoon and low and behold there he was...furry, bright eyed and playful! It didn't take long to fall in love with Tiggy :) We took him home and he has adjusted so well it is like he has always lived here with us! Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Tiggy, he has brought us great JOY!

Happy Tail

Hi!

We adopted two cats from you in the end of last year - formerly known as Patsy and Ming, nowadays Vinkel and Mittemot. They are doing great and are such a delight to us every single day. They really like each other, not to mention us humans, and they are keen to participate into
everything we do. I mean everything! When my boyfriend is coding, Mitte purrs loudly in his lap an tries to tap the keyboard with his paws. When I'm drawing, Vinkel climbs on the table and sets herself lying in the middle of my paper... and so on! :D I have even taught Vinkel a couple of tricks: she can beg, give a high five and jump through a loop. How about that!? She's the smart kitty. Mitte is big,
handsome and totally lovable - but unfortunately not as bright ;) Maybe he didn't make it in time for that line where smarts was given, for he was taking an extra portion of chilling.

They are adorable, we have not had a single problem with them. Most well behaved cats I've ever seen - we haven't had a single bite or scratch or anything during these months! And we have been forced to give them de-worming pills and stuff, and you guys know how hard that can be! Even then, no aggression at all, even if it would be totally understandable. (We have been volunteers at a Humane Society in Finland, and had all kinds of abandoned cats in our household before they were okay enough to get a permanent home, so we have a pretty good perspective regarding cat behavior :) )

Thank you so much for trusting us with these amazing pets! We have been making preparations since last year, and in a couple of months we will be taking the cats with us to Finland. We are already practicing using the pet carrier for several hours at a time, and the little furballs are doing great at it. We have been joking with my boyfriend that these fellows are the best souvenir ever - no need to dust them! On the contrary, they dust everything else!

I will leave you with a picture of the two :)

All the best,

Hanna

Luna (aka Hail)

My family said that they came to the shelter to get a different cat but fell in love with me instead. I did not want to leave my friends at the shelter but I went with them because they seemed very nice. The car ride to their house was kinda scary but my mom helped me get through it. The first night I was very scared and ran and hide under the couch. My family waited patiently but I never came out so my mom very carefully got me out from under the couch and brought me upstairs to a warm bedroom. She brought the rest of my things up to that bedroom also. My family changed my name to Luna because they thought that I am not rough and tough as hail. I mostly come out at night or later on in the day so they named me Luna, it is italian for moon. After a few weeks I started to get used to the upstairs but I am still afraid of the downstairs, my mommy is working with me on that. On March 30th I was brought to the vets to get my front claws declawed so my family could keep me. I
am still recovering and am doing well but my paws hurt alittle still and I have to take medicine that the vet wanted me to take for the pain. I feels weird without front claws but I am getting used to it. I love my my forever family. In two of one picture I am laying down on my aunty's bed that I messed up. In another picture I am sitting in my mom's room watching the guinea pigs run around in their cage. The NEXT picture was taken on my favorite night. I was up at night walking around like I always do and I heard a noise, it came from my mom's room, I quick turned around. I looked into my mom's room slowly and there I saw my mom standing there with a camera in her hands. Before I knew it... snap she took a picture of me, and then she came over to me and picked me up off the floor and hugged me closely.

Hank

Here's a few pictures of Hank. He is a great dog with lots of personality. He has had no problems adjusting to his new home. In fact it is like he has been here forever. He has his favorite blanket, favorite toy, and his favorite place to nap...the couch. Thanks CCHS for setting us up with a new buddy.

Rambo to Buddy

Rambo morphed into "Buddy" a week ago, the day he was neutered. The night he was adopted I took him with my old dog Gus to an empty parking lot. Gus and I started walking around and Buddy followed. Since then we put in a couple of miles in the woods every day and he just comes along. Buddy is already responding to his name and is well on the way to tolerating a leash.
Wonderful playful dog who loves toys, balls, power cords, shirts, slippers and biting my toes. Full of fun and spirit.
My old Gus is still adjusting to the new drill.

Kane and Kara

We adopted Kara sometime before xmas and Kane just after xmas, cause we were told he came back a couple times before. kara and kane are some of the best that has ever happend to us. we love them to pieces. Kara is just the biggest baby lol, if she does something wrong, she will run and jump in ur lap to suck up, thats how we always know if its her or kane that did something wrong. kane is just a licker thats for sure, he will lick you all day long if you let him. they are so fun to be around and keep you young, and thats for sure lol. they love to play with the cat and love to be outside. kara has been so much happier since we got kane. they both learned how to shake, high five and can almost wave bye now, we had the hardest time teaching them anything, then one day we were sitting done and kane came up to us out of nowhere and started shaking and highfiving, it was just the cutest thing. kara is a daddys girl and kane is a mommys boy.

Lilo

Hello! I adopted Lilo (one of the Black Lab/Shepard/Chow puppies, I renamed her) in December and I just wanted to let the Copper Country Humane Society know how well she is doing! Lilo is happy, healthy 5 month-old puppy now! She loves to chew on her toys and my furniture :) and has so much fun when we go to the dog park and she gets to play
with other dogs. She's 22 lbs now and keeps growing, and she's the favorite at doggie daycare, where she goes to play 2 times a week while I work, because of her silly ears that are constantly moving.
Thank you again for taking such good care of all the dogs at the Humane Society and finding families for them!

Calie and Alfi

I just wanted to share my families story. We got Calie (big black dog) almost a year ago. She wasn't a resident long at Copper Country. My kids and I were doing our regular visit when we saw her get dropped off and we knew right away that she was ours. We quickly made dibs on her and waited for the call that she was ours. Fate. We recently added Alfi (little dog) to our family about a month ago. Alfi and his many siblings were part of a puppy mill rescue and he has been a little delight. They are great friends. Hugging and laying together all the time. And have been such a great addition to our family.

Oreo (aka Spruce)

This is Oreo, aka Spruce.
We adopted him from the shelter back in September. He is doing very well and we are happy to have him as a part of our household. I have several stories to tell and will do so at a later time. Just wanted everyone to know he is doing well and we love him, he's a great dog!

Laura

Garfield

Garfield, formerly Albert was adopted by my granddaughter, Gabrielle and her family one year ago from the Copper Country Animal Shelter. Garfield was Gabrielle's 7th birthday present and on January 16th she turned 8. Garfield made an easy transition to his new family. He is an extraordinary cat! He loves the kids and does not mind being handled at all. Garfield's temperament is very laid back and he is also extremely friendly welcoming family and friends to their home. Recently, Gabrielle's older brother made Garfield a comfy bed with padding topped with a soft blanket near a window. This is turning out to be one of Garfield's favorite napping spots. He is truly loved by Gabrielle and her family and is indeed part of the family. Thank you for such an amazing pet for my granddaughter. He is well loved and happy.

Oreo

Stardust was born in August of 2004. I adopted Stardust on 3-5-05. She is a black and white tuxedo cat and I renamed her Oreo. She is a smaller sized cat with a mind all her own. Oreo doesn't mind being petted but for only short spurts. She loves to sleep by my side each night. For the past 6 years she has made herself quite at home here, she acts like she rules the roost. She loves to take naps curled up on a blanket on the sofa but prefers a nice warm ray of sunshine to bask in. Oreo is a very clean cat with shiny black fur speckled with shiny white, like her previous name as if she was sprinkled with Stardust. My home wouldn't be the same without her warm little body cuddled up against me at night. I love her.

Blackie

This is Blackie, formerly known as Salem. He was adopted by my son at the same time I adopted Stardust (now Oreo) in March of 2005. Blackie is 100% all cat. He is very solid and very muscular. He is totally black with penetrating yellow eyes and resembles a black panther. Blackie knows what he likes to eat and that is mainly poultry and meats. He loves chicken the most, but will settle for bits of pork or beef. Blackie will try to get into the refrigerator and when the door is open and he is hungry, look out! Total carnivore, but he will settle for dry cat food when he has to. Blackie has gotten a lot better with kids and now he will seek out my grandchildren for some petting and will sleep with them at night at the foot of the bed. He is a wonderful member of the family.

Kramer

Hello Everyone At CCHS!
You might remember me as "Guy", but I am now known as "Kramer". My parents adopted me almost 10 months ago, and so far life has been good. My mornings involve sleeping in, between my Mama and Dad in their warm cozy bed, going for a long morning walks, and then playing with my sister "Kloee", who you might remember as "Diamond". My parents brought her home a few months after they got me, so I would have a friend all day. We get to chase each other, cuddle, and play with our toys all day long while we are home alone. Once our parents come home, I get another long walk and then I spend the next hour playing tug of war, showing off all the tricks I have been learning (my newest one being "dance"), or snuggling on the couch. Kloee usually joins in the fun too by pouncing on me or stealing my toys.
Some of the best memories I have so far, since I came to my new home are the trips to my grandparent's cabin and playing in the lake, the 3 day backpacking trip my parents and I took through the Porcupine Mountains, snowshoeing with my Mama, and playing with my new found friend Teddy Bear (a puppy that was adopted from CCHS by my Auntie Holly S.)
Kloee and I miss you all, and hope we can get some new brothers and sisters from you in the future!!
